The key features and benefits of the application are:

Project Dashboard – Provides a holistic view of the current projects within the system. Quick access to individual projects, organized by category with indicators for recent activity.

Project Task Rollup – Displays a list of tasks assigned to the current user. Users can easily link to the associated task, or mark the task as completed directly from the display.

Easy project site creation – Gives project managers the ability to easily create a new project site, based on project site templates. The project title, category, site template and team members are defined on one simple screen that provides the basis for the resulting site. Templates can be created easily using built-in SharePoint functionality and be made available immediately for use.

Gantt Chart – Uses a customized, interactive Gantt chart to track the project timeline according to tasks, with the following features:

• Color coded by status: bars are color-coded according to their status (active, not started, complete and late).
• What-If Scenarios: creates a temporary schedule that can be modified without affecting the production schedule. These changes may then be committed to the production schedule, or discarded
• In-Line date editing: allows users to enter dates directly into the Gantt chart to instantly modify the schedule.
• Predecessors: users may define one or more predecessors for a task. If the predecessor’s due date is moved, the start and due dates of successors are automatically moved accordingly.
• Task Reminders: a custom timer job will send out alerts to the appropriate user if a task is late. This functionality is configurable in regards to the number of reminders that are sent.

Discussion Board – A threaded discussion board will facilitate discussions regarding the current project . The discussion board is customizable as to the categories for discussion. The discussion board includes the following features:

• Email: emails may be sent to team members, or to external users when a new post is submitted. Both internal and external recipients can reply to the email, and the reply will be inserted into the proper location within the discussion thread.
• Open Issues: open issues can easily be created using a checkbox within the post form. Subsequent posts within the thread can be marked as a resolution to the issue, which will then mark the issue as closed.
• Translation: inline translation of posts provides a simple method for international users to view the post in their native language.
• Tracking of unread messages: the discussion board tracks the users that have viewed a particular post, and an unread icon is displayed next to any messages that the current user has not yet viewed.
